Turn 1

MORGUL

Morgul Turn

With a roar the Orc hoardes move forward, and under the cruel control of their task masters they are kept from out pacing the Mighty Grond and its accompanying siege towers on the right flank of the battle line. The Witch-king commands the Variag cavalry to hold back, and they watch the scene with nervous anticipation.

Tight formations of Orcish infantry and archers on the left flank unleash volleys of arrows toward the defenders in their excitement, only to fall short of the walls. The siege towers are uncharacteristically devoid and quiet as they inch forward.

The assaulting hoarde creates mahem among the ranks upon the walls, forcing many to flee in terror. The Knights of Dol Amroth above the gate itself hold steady in the face of the onslaught. Suddenly, an evil dark figure stands atop the left siege tower, heedless of either height or enemy bolt. Dressed in black, the Lord of the Ring Wraiths holds aloft a dark sword with fire coursing down its blade. He utters an evil curse in a long-forgotten tongue upon the Knights, and they too cower before his evil gaze.

Note: The Morgul army has the Hittite army ability of making its opposing army do fear checks at the beginning of the game. The orcs were out of bow range before they moved, but fired anyway for effect. The Witch-King reveals himself and casts curse! Thank you Tom for the Prose!

MINAS TIRITH

Minas Tirith Turn

In the face of the onslaught, the men on the walls try as best they can to rally. Some shake off their fear while others shuffle off the walls to be replaced by fresh troops. The stout men of Mothrond hold their bow fire, letting the attackers reach optimal range. They keen eyes identify the mauraders on the right flank as Orc handweapons carrying ladders, with attached Goblins archers. With a loud shout by Prince Imrahil, the archers fire at their appointed targets. Arrows bounce and skid off the black and shiny skin of the siege tower to the north; flame arrows appear to immediately snuff out upon impact. Those archers to the south of the gate find their target, and a company of attacking orcs slip into dissarray beneath the hail of deadly arrows.

Suddenly, Gandalf the White reveals himself in shining splendour. Holding the ring Vilya, he negates the effects of Sauron's minion on the Knights of Dol Amroth. Imrahil, in whom both Elven and Numenorean blood run true waves his fist at the Nazgul Lord.

Note: Gandalf casts Bless on the Knights of Dol Amroth. Certain units now become visible. The morale clock is 9 for both Minas Tirith and Morgul.
