Battlewagon

"The Mole"
Scratch-made battlewagon

This figure uses a 1" long wooden "Robin's Egg" obtained from the local craft store. An oblique section was sawed off the long end of the egg in order to flatten the bottom so it would sit properly and to give it the appearence that it digging itself out of the ground.

Three holes must be drilled to to faciliate the various attachments. A 5/16" hole is first drilled at the "pointed end of the egg. This is for the "drill", which is the pointy end of wood screw. A second hole is then drilled at the top to facilitate the addition of a figure. I used the round base of an old 15mm figure as the hatch. A third hole is drilled completely through the axis of the egg for adding the axle of the scooper wheels. The axle itself is 20 gauge wire. For wheels I took some extra spoked wagon wheel and cut the rims evenly so a piece of rim was still connected to every other spoke. I pushed the extra spokes outward to form a spikey looking "hubcap" and then twisted the remaining spokes so the rims ressemble paddles. Finally, the heads of small tacks are glued on as rivets.

The egg is painted bronze with silver detailing. Dirt is added to the grooves of the drill, to the aft paddles rising out of the ground, the silver rivets, and the behind the mole by applying liberal amounts of Duco cement which is immediately dipped in sand. Rocks are added, and the sand is painted black. The entire figure is also washed in black.

COST: 33 cents for the egg.
